One person writes this site. That is me, Chris. There is no team just me, a dad of three!
That matters mostly because of the Hotel Standard. If a hotel passes, it passed because I sat and counted the beds on their own room page. And if I got it wrong, there is really only one person to tell.
Who writes it
I am Dutch and I am a dad of three. We lived in the Netherlands (home country), Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, and Erbil. So most of what is here comes from actually living somewhere, and booking a lot of hotels around it. More about that here.
Everything is written by me. Sometimes I use AI to code elements of the site such as menus, tools, and the quizzes.
How hotels get picked
I start with places we are actually going, or places readers keep asking me about. So the list leans to Asia and the Middle East right now, and that is just where we have been living.
Then I look at what is bookable there for 2 adults and 2 children. Most of it fails, which is honestly the whole point of the project. The ones that pass go in the database with the room details written down.
A hotel can also just send me a room page and ask. I check it the same way as everything else. And quite often the answer is really no.
No hotel can pay for a verdict
There is no fee to be assessed and no fee to be listed. Nobody gets to see a verdict before it goes up. A press rate or a free night does not really change a bed count. I am counting beds the hotel published themselves.
If we did get a discount or a free stay somewhere, it says so on that page. In the end the mark is the only thing this site really has. Selling it would just be a strange way to run the place.
How the affiliate links work
Some links here earn a commission if you book through them. It costs you nothing extra. That is really just how the site pays for itself.
The important bit is that a commission cannot get a room onto the list. The room passes or it does not, and that gets decided by the criteria first. Plenty of rooms that pass earn me actually nothing.
Next to that, if a hotel that pays well has a bad family room, it still fails. I would honestly rather lose the booking than have you sitting in the dark at 7pm again.
Corrections
Hotels change, beds get swapped, whole room categories quietly disappear. So some of this will go out of date. I would really rather hear it from you than leave it wrong.
If something here is wrong, just tell me and say which room. Then I check it against the hotel’s current page. If I was wrong I change it and I put the date on it. I do not quietly delete the old thing and pretend it was never there.
If a hotel disagrees with a verdict, it is the same process. Send me the room page. If the beds are actually there, the verdict changes.
When things were last checked
Every hotel record carries the date it was last verified. Once a year I go back through all of them again, plus, anything a reader flags gets looked at sooner.
